For Myanmar families who have recently arrived in Thailand, one of the most important concerns is their children\u2019s access to education. Due to incomplete documentation such as the absence of a passport or birth certificate many children face challenges in continuing their education.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The G-Code program is a system administered by the Thai Ministry of Education (MOE). It provides a Student Identification Code for children who do not yet have official legal documents, allowing them to enroll in Thai public schools. This code usually begins with the letter \u201cG\u201d and is used to officially register students within the national education system.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The G-Code program is available to children of Myanmar migrant workers in Thailand, stateless children, and children who do not have a birth certificate or passport. A parent\u2019s residency or visa status cannot be used as a reason to deny a child the right to attend school.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Parents are not required to apply for the G-Code themselves at government offices. The Thai public school where the child enrolls is responsible for submitting the child\u2019s basic information into the Ministry of Education system and requesting the G-Code. Schools may use the child\u2019s name, age, parental information, and any available supporting documents. Even if documentation is incomplete, schools are required to accept and process the enrollment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Once a G-Code is issued, children are eligible to receive free education in Thai public schools and can participate as officially registered students from primary through secondary education. This program is an important pathway to ensure that children are not excluded from the education system.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
However, it is important to note that the G-Code is for educational purposes only. It does not automatically grant citizenship, legal residency, travel permission, or work authorization. In the future, when students complete secondary education and seek to enter university or employment, they may need to transition to a formal identification or legal residency status.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
