Take It Down: Helping Teens Remove Explicit Images Online<\/strong><\/p>\n

Take It Down is a free, anonymous service created to help minors and young people remove explicit images or videos of themselves that have been shared online without their consent. This initiative is run by the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children (NCMEC) and supported by major technology platforms.The “Take It Down” platform was launched in 2023 in response to the increasing number of cases involving non-consensual image sharing.Take It Down was built upon the lessons learned from an earlier initiative called “Stop Non-Consensual Intimate Image Abuse”, and it incorporates advanced hashing technology to help track and remove known explicit content from participating online platforms.<\/p>\n

Take It Down uses a process that ensures anonymity and security:<\/p>\n

    3.Generate Hashes Anonymously<\/p>\n

    \u00a0\u00a0 The hashes are not reversible, meaning no one can see the original image from the hash. The hashes are uploaded, not the actual content.<\/p>\n

      \u00a0\u00a0 The hashes are shared with participating platforms like Meta (Instagram, Facebook), OnlyFans, Yubo, and others, so they can search for and remove any matching content.<\/p>\n

        \u00a0\u00a0 Platforms use the hashes to detect and take down existing or reuploaded content. You don\u2019t need to identify yourself or explain your situation.<\/p>\n

        Who Can Use It?<\/strong><\/p>\n

        \u00a0Anyone under 18 years old who has an explicit or sexually exploitative image or video of themselves online.<\/p>\n

        \u00a0Parents or trusted adults can help a minor use the platform.<\/p>\n

        Individuals over 18 can still find resources at NCMEC or through other platforms like StopNCII.org<\/p>\n
